- Biography
Clarence Doore (1913–1988) brought danger, drama, and irresistible adventure to America’s pulp magazine racks. Born in Montreal and trained in Massachusetts, he launched his national illustration career in 1937 with The Open Road for Boys. After Army service during World War II, his brush carried readers into dusty Western showdowns, gripping mysteries, and fantastic worlds through titles including Star Western and Amazing Stories. His career expanded into comic books, paperbacks, and men’s adventure magazines, with subjects ranging from soldiers to mountain explorers. Doore’s vivid visual storytelling captures the restless spirit of popular illustration, where every cover promises another thrilling escape.
